Maize thief that escaped Malindi GK prison gets a longer sentence
A remandee who escaped from prison while serving a six month jail term has been jailed for two years by a Malindi court. Appearing before Chief Magistrate Dr. Julie Oseko, Jire Katembe Jira pleaded guilty of escaping from the Malindi GK prison at Mtangani area. Jira was found guilty of stealing a sack of maize worth 2,000 shillings but escaped from prison in July 2017. The accused said that he escaped from prison to tend to his young family that was suffering back home.
