Al Shabaab kill 70 AU soldiers as retaliation tact

Friday October 21, 2011

Over 70 soldiers from the African union mission in Somalia have been killed by Al Shabaab fighters in what is the clearest indication yet that Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, may not be fully in control of the AU peacekeepers and the Somalia transitional federal government forces. This happened as Kenya’s defense forces continued their advance in the south of Somalia, with yesterday’s capture of the strategic coastal town of Ras Kiamboni.
